Events, Emotion, Home

Ironhack gave us an hour to select 3 random words from a list and create a product relating to all 3 words, no matter how seemingly disconnected they might be.

As there were 3 of us in our team (Ana Villar Eiroa, Irene Abellan and I), we each picked a word and put them together to see what we had. We were faced with the following:

  • Events
  • Emotion
  • Home

It is amazing how being so restricted really gets the creative juices flowing. In minutes we had come up with a way to link up these words in 1 product.

Problem

The biggest problem that came to mind was how nowadays, our family and friends are displaced all over the world. This means that we cannot always share special moments all together, be it a school reunion or a baby shower.

With the hectic lives we lead it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to meet in person. With this in mind, we set about designing an app that allows users to connect with their loved ones via video from anywhere in the world in a dynamic and fun way.

Process

Once we had an outline of our vision worked out, we turned to Crazy Eights to put our ideas on paper. We gave ourselves 8 minutes to draw 8 frames of how the app might look and function. Here is an example of mine:

Crazy Eight

We then put all 3 sketches together, selecting the best elements from each to create a lo-fi prototype.

Result

In our final product, the user has the option of creating a new event. After confirming the guests, date and time of the event, the user is encouraged to specify the occasion in order to receive suggestions of dynamic and fun activities for their guests virtually. For example, a family reunion might include a recipe all the guests could cook together, or for a baby shower a “guess the baby name” game.

Low Fidelity Prototype

Once the event is created, the attendees are sent an invitation that they can recieve via the app or email. They can confirm whether or not they are attending and also talk with other attendees using the chat feature.

Now distance is no longer an excuse!
